Last week was long and rough for our family.
B.A. had jury duty and was stuck with a big trial that lasted almost two weeks. He's deadly busy at work with refinances, so it was not a good time for him to miss so much work. He was upgraded from an alternate to a juror the last day of the trial. The jury deliberated for about eight hours on Thursday afternoon/night. The whole ordeal was stressful and emotional for him, and he's still sort of obsessing about it.
While he was deliberating, I was at home with sick kids. Sadie had a tummy ache every night last week and would scream in pain. Finally on Thursday I stayed home with her and took her to the doctor. They didn't really find anything wrong with her but thought maybe she was a little constipated. Then when I picked up Peyton, he was complaining of a sore throat. Luckily, we had made plans for Mom to stop over after work to see the kids and order pizza. She helped comfort the dramatic, screaming Sadie and the whining Peyton. She also enjoyed watching Sophie show off with all of her latest tricks. After she left, Peyton started crying in pain from his sore throat and had a fever of 101 degrees. Sadie was screaming at the top of her lungs, and Sophie needed a bottle and to be put to bed. Sophie refused to go to sleep, Sadie refused to stop screaming, and poor Peyton was really suffering. I was also supposed to be doing laundry and packing for our weekend trip to Des Moines, which was impossible. It was very hairy for awhile.
Friday I had to miss work again and haul Peyton and Sadie back to the doctor. It turned out they both had strep. We got them loaded up on antibiotics and Tylenol, and they are on the mend.
