Aunt Kate and Uncle Andy's Baby Shower

BA, Noah, Sophie, and I went to Des Moines Friday night so that we could attend a baby shower on Saturday. We first stopped in Slater to see Kate and Andy when we arrived. It was so good to see them and have a little visit. Kate showed me the adorable nursery, and they are all set. What a lucky little baby to have such a cute nursery and such nice parents. Andy brought a gift from their previous baby shower out to the living room to show us. It was a little ride-on fire engine, and boy, did Sophie love that thing. She was walking with it, sitting on it, and dancing to the music. Noah enjoyed seeing Buck and Buster. Well, so did Sophie, but got nervous when they got too terribly close. It was just so great to see them, and it made me wish we could just move to that area so we could hang out with them more. I sure am going to wish that a lot when that little niece or nephew comes!

After our visit with Andy and Kate, we checked in to our motel. It was really nice and modern. Noah had a sofa, BA and I had a big comfy king bed, and Sophie had her pack and play. We fired up our laptops for awhile, read a bit, watched a little TV, and settled in. Sophie never sleeps well away from home, but Friday night was ridiculous. The first couple times she woke up, we put her back to sleep and then back into her pack and play. But after that, we finally gave up and kept her in between us in bed. She thrashed and whined and cried and woke up several times. No one got much sleep.

Saturday morning we had a little continental breakfast, got showered and dressed, and headed to Kate's sister's house for the shower. We met up with Andy, Kate, Mom, Jim, Kate's parents, sisters, and brothers-in-law there. We also got to meet several of their neighbors, who are great friends to them. We each got a baby necklace when we arrived, and throughout the shower whenever someone said the word "Baby", the person who caught them got to snatch their necklace. Whoever ended up with the most was the winner. Noah took this game very seriously and ended up with almost all of the necklaces. He was excellent at this game, and was very entertaining about calling violators out. We enjoyed great brunchy food, fun visiting, and cute gifts. Sophie and Noah were both well-behaved and didn't embarrass us at all.

After the shower, we had to go to our motel to change and rest. Then we hit the malls. BA had a haircut, I shopped a little, and Noah complained. He despises shopping and is determined to ruin it for everyone else. We went back to our motel and called the Texas Roadhouse that was right next door. There was a two hour wait for seating, but BA was really hungry for it, so we got our names in anyway. Noah and I got a delish ice cream treat from the nearby Cold Stone Creamery to tide us over, and we got Sophie's jammies on. We went to eat at around eight, which is Sophie's bedtime. We were all dragging, and the place was busy. Sophie got too crabby to last it out, and when BA was finished eating, he headed back to the motel with her while Noah and I finished up. It was really tasty, but we learned our lesson about taking a baby out to eat that late at night.

After another night of several wakenings with the baby, we had another continental breakfast and hung around in our motel room having fun togehter. Noah watched a movie on my computer, BA surfed the internet and read the paper, and Sophie and I played and laughed. Then we loaded up and met Mom and Jim at Famous Daves for lunch. After a quick store stop, Noah opted to ride home with them to spare himself more shopping. BA, Sophie, and I shopped some more and didn't head back until late afternoon. I found lots of new clothes for Noah, who really needed them, some adorable birthday splurges for Sophie, and a some cheap books at a used book store that we really love. We picked up Peyton and Sadie in Holstein and didn't get home until around nine Sunday night.

I really had a good time over the weekend. BA and I got along swimmingly, the kids were pleasant and sweet, and it just was such a treat to hang out with Andy, Kate, Mom, and Jim and think about that new baby that will be joining our family really soon.
