I coudn't fall asleep (despite the four beers I drank) on Sophie's birthday night for anything. I was up until 12:30. I slept from 12:30 until 3:30, when B.A. woke me up with a blaster of a fart (in his sleep). I sent his stinky ass packing to sleep on the couch, but couldn't get back to sleep myself. I laid in bed until five, but finally got so frustrated with not being able to sleep that I just got up for the day.
Since the paper wasn't here yet and everyone else was asleep, I decided to tear into Sophie's quilt. When I started this, I sort of anticipated it being a special homespun first birthday treasure from her momma. But I didn't have a spare moment to work on it after my initial blast of progress. Plus I was pretty unsure about how to finish the edges and quilt it together, since it's my first quilt. Well, this morning I just decided I was tired of it being half done and the mess of it being all over my office. I just trudged forward with the rest of the steps, guessing as I went, half-assing (no ironing, no measuring, very little pinning), and committing several mistakes. There are some puckers, some crooked seams, and several other little annoyances, but I just love it! I'm so stinking proud of myself. I claim that those little errors just make it have more character. B.A., bless his heart, proclaimed that Sophie would be taking that off to college with her some day, because it will be so special to her. It is big enough for a twin bed when she moves into one. So for today, I laid it out on the floor and let her sit on it, telling her it was her late birthday present (because she hasn't had enough from us yet, right?). Then I folded it up and put it in her armoire for future use.
I also dressed Sophie up deadly cute today. So I posed her on the steps to get her picture. She doesn't know how to maneuver steps yet, so that was the only way to get her to hold still long enough. It backfired on me when she dove forward and almost fell (I caught her in time.), but I did get some cute pictures to show off here.
Woo hoo! I survived the first birthday hoopla. And now I have a four day week three weeks in a row. I have the next two Fridays off (conferences exchange day, then Good Friday) as well as the Monday after Easter (spring break). After those three short weeks, just five or six full weeks, and then I'll be out for the summer. I am sure looking forward to spending more time playing with all of my kids and getting things done around home over these short weeks and in the summer. I can't wait!
