Woo Hoo! My office is more functional than it has ever been. I thought I was almost done, then I found some must-have pieces rummaging this weekend. I bought two tall storage cupboards (unfinished, colored on) for four bucks a piece. I also found a one of a kind, beat-up, priceless (Well, actually the price was $18.) drop leaf table. There are two leaves, each of which can be extended or dropped. It also has three drawers on each side of the center. It's awesome. I painted all three of these pieces with a couple coats of the bargain-basement green that I used on my sewing desk. I am, by the way, about sick of this green, which is good, because my six dollar gallon is almost gone. But it's a good thing to paint all of these found items all the same color, because it makes them almost look as if they all go together.
Anyhow, BA and I had to haul the old, huge table out of my office, then replaced it with my $26 worth of new, green items. Woot-twoot, if I do say so myself. It's SO functional, it's ridiculous. I'm afraid to see what sort of crafty, creative items I am going to crank out in this space. I can put both leaves up when I'm doing something BIG and need a lot of counter space, or drop one down for my everyday use.
I'm attaching pictures, but I assure you it's even better in real life. Also, I have one of the two curtains I'm sewing for my office done, so I still have one to crank out. There are a few finishing touches to put on yet, but overall, I'm patting myself on the back for accomplishing a HUGE task. Also, I only bought small storage pieces. The rest are all used things from rummages - good for the earth, and SO good for my budget. I estimate this entire makeover to have cost less than a hundred dollars, including hardware, paint, and furniture (six pieces). Don't forget to revisit the "before" pictures to get the full impact of this cheap makeover.
I guess now before I can actually start going to town in my office, I had better tend to sorting through my kids' clothes and organizing their rooms. Oh crud.
It looks awesome!! I can't wait to see it "in real life" :)
